This Eco-Home Extension in Ravenshead, Nottingham also featured in the 2013 Self Build and Design Magazine.

Architectural Design Brief:

The brief was to provide a new modern master bedroom with en-suite. On the ground floor a new Living Room was to be created.

Green technologies were also to be included to maximise the properties energy efficiency.

A successful planning application was submitted to Gedling Borough Council for the proposed extension works.  (Planning approval for the various ‘green technologies’ was also granted. In this case planning permission was required for the Solar Panel Array – erected in the large grounds of the property).

Green Technologies:

The completed property benefitted from:
– Solar PV Panel Array
– Mechanical Heat Recovery Ventilation (MHRV)
– A Grey Water System to recycle water

Passive design measures were also adopted within the design. The south facing glazed screen was designed to be shaded by the overhanging roof in the summer months when the sun is at its highest. In the winter months when the sun is low, the glazed screen maximised solar gains.
