Chartered Architect or Chartered Architectural
Technologist?
In the United Kingdom, Chartered Architectural Technologists enjoy
the same statute as Architects. They deliver similar services
...(source Wikipedia).
An Architect will often describe their profession as the 'art' of
building. A Chartered Architectural Technologist will often be
described a specialist in the 'technology' of building. Both
professions are complimentary and often work alongside each other in
larger practices and on large construction projects to compliment
their skill sets. Both professions can provide the full design
services individually or in partnership and oversee the delivery of
a building project. Architects are registered with the Architects
Registration Board (ARB) and are often a member of the Royal
Institute of British Architects, (RIBA). Chartered
Architectural Technologists like
Paul Day BSc (Hons) MCIAT of PD
Architecture are registered with, and members of the
Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists, (CIAT). Both
professions are governed by their respective organisations codes of
conduct. Each profession may approach the delivery of a
project from their own respective backgrounds, with an art or technology
bias, and each will have an experience of their own previously
delivered projects. As a client, you should always investigate your
chosen architectural professionals background and the previous projects
they have completed, also check their references before satisfying
yourself you have the best architectural consultant available. The best architectural
professionals will have a full understanding of both the aesthetic
and technical aspects of a building project and will be able to
demonstrate they can deliver a well designed and technically
proficient building that works within the project brief and
budgetary constraints, often displayed through a fully comprehensive
portfolio
