Architectural Blog: Self Build Home in Widmerpool, Nottingham by PD Architecture.

For this week’s #TBT post we are taking you back to 2007.

This self-build home site was in the heart of the village of Widmerpool in Nottingham. The original site housed an old and dated dwelling in need of modernisation.  After careful consideration of the costs involved, the decision was taken to demolish and rebuild the existing dwelling rather than to modernise.  Accordingly, it proved financially beneficial whilst also providing a new home to meet the family’s needs to replace the former dated property.

Following the decision to demolish and rebuild a replacement dwelling the architectural building plans were created.  The self-builder was particularly keen for us to provide a Georgian look to the property.  The eventual designs included for four bedrooms, (each with an en-suite), a double garage with a home office over and all the modern facilities you may associate with a new home. Furthermore, the architectural detailing to create the Georgian styling for the property included a predominantly brick built home with a rendered wing, stone window heads and cills, timber sash windows, conservation rooflights and all finished off with a slate roof. Equally important, was the entrance feature door and surround (hidden in this photograph by the gated entrance).
