Home Energy Battery Storage

Home Energy Battery Storage

Architectural Blog:
Recent retro-fit of a #BatteryStorage unit at one of our previous home extension projects with #SolarPV panels.

So how does it work?

This snapshot is taken at around 10:30am, (on a relatively dull day before the heatwave with just 1605 W being generated): The #battery has been part charged already by the #SolarPanels, it’s a time of high demand, (2198 W consumption: working from home and washing machine on). Electricity is being pulled from the Solar Panel Installation and the Battery, (with no electricity being required from the grid).

NOTE: Washing machines, kettles, immersion heaters and electric showers in particular take up a high use of electricity in the home.

Without the washing machine on, this house has a consumption rate of around 200-350 W during daylight hours, (even when working from home). So generally the Solar Panels (3.8kW) adequately charge the battery, (subject to weather conditions), whilst also running the home during daylight hours.  The battery is then brought into use during the daytime – when the demand is high, or at night time when the Solar PV Panels are no longer generating electricity.  Thus lowering the properties overall electric consumption from the grid and, in turn,  reduces the home energy bills through #green #onsite #generation AND an added storage capacity.

These systems can also run alongside reduced night time tariffs from energy providers (with or without the Solar PV Panels) to help top up the battery at cheaper rates during the night, and of course this is the same technology and tariffs that EV owners often take advantage of.
